The village of Brashlyan

The village of Brashlyan is situated in the north-eastern part of the Strandja mountain and 240 meter above sea level. The village is located 64 km south from Burgas town and 199 km from Varna town.
Since 1982 the whole village has been proclaimed a historical and an architectural reserve where authentic houses, typical of the 18-19 C. Strandja architecture can been seen.
There 76 houses are architectural monuments of culture, 9 of them are of national importance.
The oldest house of the village was built in the middle of the 17 C. and is still inhabited.
The Thracian dolmen and burial mounds (necropolis) ,excavated in the village suburbs are interesting to be seen. They are connected with the legend telling how the village was once found.
The village is dated back to the end of 17 C. and beginning of the 18 C. when the population of the three cabin-like settlements Yurtet, Selishte and Zhivak came down to settle on the place of the present-day Brashlyan estate - “Dolna mahala”, which is in fact the oldest part of the village.

Places of interest

The church “St.Dimitar” with its cell school. It is an architectutal monument.
The Balyovs’ house which was built in 19 C. Today an architectural and historical monument.
The three chapels : “St.Panteleymon”, “St.Petka” and “St.Leuftera”.
The open museum of the traditional agriculture, dated back to the Revival period.
The Ethnographic house-museum.
The tourist shelters in the sites “Dvata vrisa”, “Boriloto”, “Kobarelova watermill”and “St.Panteleymon”.
The “Vitanovo” preservation area.
The “Bratanova” cave which is situated in the “Vitanovo” preserve.
The field of rare wild orchids in the site “Gogovo”.
The visitors can take a walk along one of the few tourist tracks around the village,
listen how  the local women choir sing the typical  Strandja region folk songs or simply relax in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the mountains.
